In general, a local move can cost you anywhere from several hundred to several thousand dollars. However, these are just rough figures and may not reflect the total price of your move.

Scheduling a move with us is easy. You can either fill out our online quote form, call us directly, or visit our office to speak with a representative. We will then provide you with a customized moving plan and schedule that fits your specific needs.

Like any other service, it is customary to tip movers if you are satisfied with their performance. 15-20% is an appropriate gratuity. Movers are usually tipped in cash. Check our NYC moving tipping guide for more tips.

If you are moving in the off-peak season (October-April), scheduling a move a week or two in advance will usually be sufficient. But, if you are moving in the peak season (April – September), try to schedule your move three to four weeks in advance.

The best time of year to move to Manhattan is late fall (October to November) or early spring (March to April).

Avoid June through August if possible, as it’s peak moving season in NYC and moving companies are in high demand (and charge more). Winter (December to February) can also offer good deals, but snow and cold weather can make moving difficult. If flexibility allows, aim for mid-month moves or weekdays, when prices are usually lower.

You don’t need a general “moving permit” from the city to move into or within NYC.

In addition, NYC does not offer residential moving truck parking permits as with some other cities.

If your moving truck exceeds standard dimensions, you’ll need an Over-Dimensional Vehicle Permit from the NYC DOT, which must be applied at least 48 hours in advance.

The best time to look for apartments in NYC is between October and April, when the rental market slows down, leading to lower prices, less competition, and more room to negotiate with landlords. During this off-peak season, you’re more likely to find deals such as no broker fees or a free month of rent. In contrast, the busiest (and most expensive) time to search is from May through August, when demand spikes due to school graduations, job relocations, and seasonal moves. Ideally, you should start your apartment search 30–45 days before your desired move-in date.
